After a week of rain sheltered in a dimly lit hogan, the sky cleared and we saddled up in the black of the night. We rode into the backcountry, running our horses under the stars of the early twilight. When the first rays of the rising sun came over the desert, I made this photograph of my Navajo guide as we trotted along at the base of the Totem Pole.
