AUTUMN MOSAIC
Telluride, Colorado - 2024
Limited Edition of 95
Driving through Colorado on a warm and sunny fall afternoon, we stopped at a peaceful pond surrounded by tall aspen trees. I found myself looking deeply into the water at the mirrored reflection of the magnificent trees. A slight breeze brought ripples to the water that distorted the scene with different textures, like that of an impressionist painting. I pointed my camera down at the water and waited to press the shutter for a moment where the eye could make out the scene that was being reflected, yet was still abstract enough to make the viewer stop to think about it a little bit. I walked away from the pond that day with the feeling I had captured something special but ended up waiting on this one for quite a while. Some months went by, and I kept looking at it, unsure of the work until I had the idea to flip the image completely upside down from how I had originally shot it! As soon as I flipped it, the trees became right side up and the image suddenly felt much more familiar to the eye. Now I was finally ready to print it for the gallery and offer it large on the wall in someone’s home! I’ve always loved creating these abstract photographs, finding new techniques and processes with the camera and making a piece of art that has the ability to affect the viewer in a much more intimate way.
