WIND DANCE
Eastern Sierra, California – 2024
Limited Edition of 95
One of the most stunning horses from my favorite mustang herd, located near my home in the Eastern Sierra, is this breathtaking cremello stallion. His brilliant ivory coloring makes him standout as one of the most beautiful horses in the herd. Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours photographing these wild horses, and he has appeared in one of my favorite shots already, “Wild and Free,” galloping with his herd across the frame. But I knew I needed a solo shot of him—a moment that would truly capture his essence.
In the midst of the large herd, I made sure to spend countless moments alone with him, patiently waiting for the perfect shot. The valley where they roam carries a sacred and wild energy—its remote, isolated, and completely silent if not for the sounds of the relentless wind and thundering hoofbeats. I wanted this image to reflect that energy, and one stormy afternoon, everything aligned.
The atmosphere of the storm stirred the energy of the herd, as if the very air was alive with anticipation. The wind howled, and the restless horses seemed to sense the change, moving with a heightened, almost electric energy. And then, as if the moment had been waiting for me, he danced past—glowing in the soft, fleeting light of the storm. His ivory coat shimmered against the darkening sky, a vision of grace and power as he moved through the wild, untamed landscape.
With this photograph, I believe I’ve finally been able to capture his spirit.
