Frequently Asked Questions

About Blake DeBock

Why Fine Art Photography

Fine art photography has the power to inspire, evoke emotion, and bring the beauty of nature into the home. It transforms fleeting moments into timeless art, creating a connection between the viewer and the wild landscapes and wildlife captured through the lens.

What kind of camera do you use?

I use the best Canon cameras available, currently the Canon R5 II, paired with top-of-the-line lenses. My go-to setup features the 24-70mm f/2.8, which I rely on for most of my shots. For wide-angle landscapes and ocean photography, I turn to the 15-35mm f/4, while my wildlife work calls for a more intimate approach with the 70-200mm f/2.8 or 100-500mm zoom lenses. On special wildlife shoots, I reach for the 400mm f/2.8 or 600mm f/4 to capture the finest details from a distance.

Can I come work with you?

I’m truly honored by your interest! At the moment, we already have a great team in place, but I always appreciate connecting with fellow creatives and passionate individuals. Keep following along for any future opportunities!

What is your advice for an aspiring photographer?

Find a mentor who is already creating the kind of work you aspire to. Study their process, ask questions, and absorb as much as you can. Take the time to learn, think, and obsess over every detail—mastery comes from dedication, patience, and an unrelenting passion for your craft.

Where can I see the art in person?

You can experience my fine art photography in person at the Blake DeBock Gallery, located in The Village in Mammoth Lakes, CA. The gallery showcases my latest collections of wildlife and landscape photography, bringing the beauty of nature to life in a stunning fine art setting. Stop by and immerse yourself in the work!

What is a Limited Edition?

A Limited Edition means that only a set number of prints will ever be produced for a particular image. Each print is signed and numbered, ensuring its exclusivity and value. Editions come in multiple sizes ranging from 20 to 500 signed prints.

Will you ever re-print a Limited Edition?

Absolutely not. Once a Limited Edition sells out, no more prints of that image will ever be produced. Each piece remains exclusive to its collectors, preserving its rarity and value.

Can I order a custom sized Limited Edition artwork?

Yes! Custom sizes are available, and we have the unique ability to create artwork tailored to perfectly fit your space. Let us know your dimensions, and we’ll work with you to ensure the piece complements your vision.

Why does the price of the artwork change over time?

DeBock Fine Art Limited Editions are produced in a fixed edition size, meaning only a set number of prints will ever be made. As demand for a particular piece increases, so does its value and price.

Collecting early ensures you receive the most competitive pricing before the edition sells out or prices rise due to its exclusivity.

Do you sell paper prints?

Our standard acrylic prints are a ready-to-hang, finished product, crafted using the finest Fuji Crystal Archive paper and facemounted to acrylic for longevity and a sleek, frameless presentation. We also offer several framing options for our acrylic prints.

If you prefer an unmounted print, we can accommodate that upon request, allowing you to take it to a framer of your choice. However, pricing remains the same for this option.

What is an Artist Proof?

With each standard release, we offer a limited Artist Proof (AP) collection, with only 5 to 25 Artist Proofs ever made for an image. Typically reserved for Blake’s personal collection and for display in museums and galleries, a small number are also made available to collectors.

Artist Proofs may feature subtle differences in color, sizing, or framing from the main edition, making them the rarest and most sought-after prints. Their exclusivity and unique variations add to their value, making them a true collector’s piece.

Displaying your Artwork

How do I hang my art?

12x12 Float

Our 12x12 Floats hang with a keyhole mount. These can hang simply from a single screw or nail.

Limited Edition Fine Art and Open Edition Prints

Our Fine Art prints are designed for secure, easy installation using a z-bar locking system, which comes pre-installed on the back of the artwork. We provide the necessary hardware for mounting on drywall or wood studs.

Installation Steps:

  1. Hang and level the z-bar on the wall.

  2. Set the artwork onto the bar and lower it into place, locking it securely.

*While installation is straightforward, we highly recommend hiring a professional installer to ensure your artwork is safely and properly mounted.

What is the best height to hang artwork?

We recommend hanging your artwork at eye level, 60-64 inches from the floor to the center of the artwork. When hanging your artwork above a bed, fireplace, or other furniture, the bottom of the frame should be 6-8 inches above the furniture.

How should I light my artwork?

While it is not needed for most art locations, if you would like to add lighting, we recommend lighting your artwork with a spotlight from the ceiling at 45 deg angle with a warmer color temperature (2700K-3200K) and high CRI rating of 90+.

Caring for your Artwork

How do I care for the surface of my artwork

Extreme caution should be used when cleaning the surface of your Fine Art photograph. Our prints should only require occasional dusting. Use a soft cloth to gently remove dust. Do not use window sprays or chemicals as these can cause permanent damage. To preserve the longevity of your artwork, handle it with care and avoid exposure to harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Acrylic Prints

Use a soft dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints, taking care to avoid abrasive wipes. In the rare case further cleaning is needed we recommend NOVUS 1 Acrylic Polish. It is also possible to remove deep scratches in acrylic using NOVUS 2 and 3.

Metal Prints

Use a soft cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. If needed on the metal prints you can use a damp soft cloth and then wipe dry.

How do I clean the frame?

Our wood frames have a protective wax finish that requires minimal maintenance beyond occasional dusting. A soft, dry cloth can be used to remove spots or debris. Avoid liquid or chemical cleaning products, as they can deteriorate the protective finish over time. To remove dust from the liner, we recommend using compressed or canned air, ensuring that no moisture is expelled during the cleaning process.

How do I protect my artwork from damage over time?

To preserve your artwork’s quality, avoid direct sunlight and always handle with clean hands or cotton gloves to prevent oils from transferring onto the surface.

What is the lifespan of my print?

Our prints can last for generations if taken care of properly. Our Acrylic Prints are archival for 125 years and our Metal Prints for 75 years.
