In the Summer of 2014 I was immersed in the world of pro surf photography, assisting legendary photographer Aaron Chang. A major hurricane was funneling up the West coast of California, so we set off to chase the swell up the coast. We ended up at The Wedge at sunset when I made this shot of a surfer who was running back into the surf after retrieving his board up the beach. Surfers at The Wedge don’t wear leashes because of the turbulent nature of the wave. Basically if you fall, your safer without it.
